Daniel in the Lions Den
Daniel was thrown to the lions because he worshipped God. King Darius's advisers were jealous of him as Daniel was the king's friend as well as being a trusted adviser. He was also due to become very important.
So the advisers got together and cleverly asked the king to make a law against anyone worshipping a God other than the King. They heaped so much praise upon the King that he was so flattered by their remarks he let them have their request. So the law was passed that anyone would be thrown into the lions den if they worshipped another God. The law once made could not be undone.
So Daniel was accused of worshipping God and not the King and refusing to do otherwise.
The advisers then reminded the King of the law he had passed. The King was so upset when he realised what he had done and could not change it. He had a lot of respect for his friend but had no alternative than to have Daniel captured and thrown to the lions.
Daniel having already known his fate had prayed to God 3 times a day asking for his help. The King did tell Daniel that his God who he worships so devotedly may well save him. The den was sealed with a massive heavy stone.
The King was so anxious about what he had done that the next day at first light he went to the den. He listened but when he heard no sound he called out to Daniel. He asked Daniel if his God had saved him. Daniel responded with the words "Oh King, live forever." He then told him how God had indeed looked after him by sending angels to keep the lions jaws shut. The king had the den opened. The lions lay sleeping around Daniel who was taken out of the den. The King then ordered that his advisers who were so jealous of Daniel to be thrown into the lions den. He then let it be known that a law would be passed that everyone should worship the God that Daniel worships for he saved him from the lions.
