More Interesting Than Your Teacher
There is a great, new, handy, little book of general knowledge facts for you to discover. It has the rather mischievous title
More Interesting than Your Teacher. The book by Stuart Wright is fun to
just dip into it. This is where you can find out about things such as oysters, lost treasure, whether lard deserves its reputation as one of the bad fats and a whole lot more.
Oysters apparently are normally born male and remain so for the first year
of their life and then change into a female. They change sex one or more times throughout their lives. No wonder you can't tell if they are male or female! This wasn't something I knew about oysters, did you?
I hate snakes so reading about how big a certain type of python can grow in length and width. As well as how a boa constrictor kills its prey, merely confirmed my dislike for them.
But some things might shock you into taking action for instance if you need
to lose weight. The amount of calories in a slice of
cherry cheesecake can make a sufficient amount of power to keep a light bulb going for an hour and half. This realisation may make you think again about eating it.
How the "Pals Battalion" came about during the First World War was a fascinating insight into how they got men to join up and fight for the their country.
I also found a few new things out about the procedures of post - mortems. Establishing how someone died is not as straight forward as you would have thought.
The book will help you find out how intelligent you are with an intelligence test. You could go on and see who is the brightest amongst your friends or family.
With Christmas coming up you can quiz everyone and see how much they know about meteorites, bed bugs, the solar system, fire, lost treasure, snotites and much more. It would make a super stocking filler and a present worth asking Father Christmas for.
Stuart Wright says in his introduction that he wanted the book to give "interesting information without getting bored and bogged down in minute detail." I know just what he means the detail can come later if need be let's
get straight to what you want to know.
